Tutor of Jazz Guitar, Composition and Musical Theory

​

Alex is a Jazz Guitarist, composer and teacher based in Forest Hill, South East London. He has been playing the guitar for over 10 years, with experience performing professionally across the UK and Europe. Performing a wide range of styles including, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, World Music and Rock.

 

Alex graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2019 with a BMus in Jazz Guitar and has recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a Master of Arts in Jazz Performance (distinction) and was awarded a DipRam award for an outstanding mark in his final recital. Alex was awarded the Drapers Scholarship for an outstanding audition. Since graduating from the Academy Alex is now leading his own project ‘Xandau’ playing his own compositions as a bandleader and will debut in the EFG London Jazz Festival in November 2023.

 

Alex has played in stages and festivals across the UK and Europe such as the Royal Albert Hall, Bimhaus Amsterdam, Boomtown festival, EFG London jazz festival, Greenmail Festival, The Welsh National Embassy in Berlin, The Vortex Jazz Club and the Wales Millennium centre.

 

Alex is a keen and passionate guitar teacher with over 6 years experience performing and teaching professionally who prides himself on delivering excellent lessons tailored to each student. Alex has taught a wide variety of ages and abilities, from absolute beginners to semi professionals. Specialising in music theory, improvisation and guitar technique, Alex teaches all styles and genres of guitar playing, from rock and metal to jazz, pop, funk, blues, classical and acoustic. Alex also has lots of experience teaching graded syllabuses 1-8 (ABRSM, Rockschool and Trinity Graded syllabuses), Alex also teaches students songs from artists they love, and believes this is a critical part of learning music.
