Tutor of Piano, Drums, Keyboard and Music Theory
Chris has been playing drums and piano for over twenty years and absolutely loves playing and teaching both instruments. Since graduating from the University of York with a First Class Honours Degree in 2011, he has had a variety of experiences as a professional performer including playing in rock/pop bands in O2 Academies around the UK, leading a professional 30 piece samba band and playing in the prestigious National Youth Jazz Orchestra. He is currently playing for the touring pop / soul band The King’s Parade, who just finished recording their debut album at the prestigious Abbey Road and RAK Studios.
In his ten years of teaching experience, Chris has given private lessons to students of all ages (ranging from 5 to 72!), covering a variety of genres (Classical, Pop, Jazz, Blues and Latin), and has had the pleasure of taking several drum-kit and piano students from complete beginner level all the way to Grade 8 and beyond… He teaches all the main syllabuses (Grades 1-8) but is also very happy to work with students who just want to improve their general musicianship.
His approach to teaching is friendly and encouraging, getting students to play to music/backing tracks as early on as possible, believing that this is one of the best and most enjoyable ways in which you can learn.
“Chris has been teaching Ruhan for 8 years and has had an amazing impact. He started with Ruhan when he was a total beginner and Ruhan is now about to sit his Grade 8. As well as being patient and inspiring, Chris has instilled a love of music and performing in front of school and public audiences. Ruhan looks forward to his weekly lessons with Chris and in his words “Chris is the best teacher”. On top of this, Chris has guided Ruhan to getting two music scholarships, enabling Ruhan to go to his first choice secondary school. Ruhan has also been accepted onto the Royal College of Music’s prestigious weekend music programme as a result of Chris’s tutoring. We can’t thank him enough.” - Veena Verma

“Chris has been tutoring my year old son for under a year now and has moved him from grade 1 to now grade 3. He also did a great job adapting the lessons virtually, in fact all of grade 2 was done this way. He is a wonderful teacher who is kind, patient and extremely encouraging. He sets the pace at the right level for your child. I highly recommend Chris.” - Sanita Hoch
“Chris is a fantastic teacher. My son has never learned drums before but after just 3 lessons he is sounding great and really enjoying it. Chris is friendly and punctual and a pleasure to deal with. He has even set up video lessons whilst we are unable to leave home. I highly recommend him and so does my son!” - Louise Scott
“Our son Leo has been playing drums for 6 years. Due to our family's frequent moves, we had to change teachers a few times as we moved to a new city. Chris has been Leo's drum teacher since we moved to London over a year ago, and is his favourite. Chris is very patient and supportive. He takes time to explain things calmly and always brings a positive, warm, friendly vibe to the class. He has identified Leo's weaknesses and helped him make great progress and stay motivated. As the country switched to national lockdown in March, we immediately switched to Zoom in a very efficient way. In short, we highly recommend Chris to students of all levels.” - Olivier de Gaudemar
“I was recommended to Chris by my friend whose son is having lessons and in a short time is up to grade 7. I have always wanted to play the drums and as a senior I want to learn for fun. I have found Chris’s lessons very imaginative, inspiring and great fun so if you want to play the drums whatever your age Chris is your man. He is a great teacher.” - Adele Maxwell-Miles
“I took up drumming during a midlife crisis. I feel in love with it and tried to play as much as I could. I then hit some technical problems and found Chris a few years ago. What an amazing find. He is dedicated and committed to improving his students’ playing. His lessons are packed with fun drills, playback, playing pieces and solos as well as helping me on any topic or questions I have. He gives the world of encouragement if he notices improvements and advancements. He is a very likeable young chap, who is also a rock star in the making. I thoroughly enjoy our lessons and I have improved significantly under Chris. Lessons will be very enjoyed.” - Yasser Hussein
