Tutor of Piano, Percussion and Music Theory
Heledd is a percussionist and pianist from South Wales who recently graduated from the Royal College of Music with a 1st Class Honours as an Ashley Foundation Scholar, receiving the 2021 Southern Percussion Prize. She has recently performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera as part of the Evolve scheme and BBC National Orchestra of Wales as part of a NYAW collaboration. Heledd has studied with world-renowned professors including David Hockings, Chris Ridley, Patrick King, Chris Stock, Grahame King and Hugh Wilkinson. Other recent experiences vary from performing with classical ensembles such as the British Sinfonietta to performing with Llareggub, a Welsh ‘Bronx hip hop-inspired New Orleans-tinged’ brass band, at numerous Welsh festivals over the summer.
Before studying at the Royal College of Music, Heledd was previously a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for 2 years with whom she performed under the direction of many renowned conductors in prestigious concert halls across the UK including the Symphony Hall and the Royal Albert Hall where they played as part of the BBC Proms series. Heledd was previously a member of National Youth Orchestra of Wales. As a soloist, Heledd reached the final of the 2018 Meirion and Aldwyn Bursary competition, open to all welsh performing arts students. In 2016, she reached the final of the prestigious Gregynog Young Musician competition, winning her category and being crowned Gregynog Young Percussionist of the year. Heledd was also runner up in the UK National Final of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year 2016 competition. She has also previously won the titles Caerphilly Young Musician and Young Musician of the Valleys.
As a pianist, Heledd began to play when she was 5 years old and passed her ABRSM Grade 8 exam 10 years later. She reached the final of Caerphilly Young Musician at the age of 16 and has accompanied many performers over the years. Alongside performing, Heledd also enjoys teaching and leading workshops and she has an ABRSM teaching diploma. During her time at college, she worked closely with the Sparks organisation, helping to lead numerous workshops from across all ages. She also teaches at Music House for Children, and was involved in outreach projects during her time with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
