Tutor of Piano, Musical theory

 

Rohan is an aspiring musicologist and piano player based in London. He is currently a second-year music student at King’s College London, with tutorship from Professor John Reid at the Royal Academy of Music. Rohan previously studied with Dr Robert Markham at Yorkshire Young Musicians before heading to Chetham’s School of Music for seven years under Jonathan Middleton. Whilst where he gained his DipABRSM in piano performance as well as a distinction at ABRSM grade eight music theory.

At Chetham’s, Rohan had gained a plethora of solo piano experience. Highlights included: competing in the International Chopin Festival in Mazovia, Poland, performing in a pre-concert event with Marc-Andre Hamelin at the Bridewater Hall, Manchester and playing the first of a complete performance of Messiaen’s Catalogue d’Oiseaux at the Stoller Hall, Manchester. Furthermore, he gained invaluable lessons from world renowned pianists in the form of masterclasses and workshops such as Sir Stephen Hough and Dr Murray McLachlan.

Aside from solo work, Rohan has found great success as a collaborative pianist. He has worked as a repetitor and performer for productions of Ravel’s l'enfant et les sortilège and John Blow’s Venus and Adonis. He frequently accompanies other instrumentalists in workshops, lessons and for auditions across a wide range of genres as well as playing for chorus/choir rehearsals such as the BBC philharmonic’s performance of Handel’s Harmoniemesse at the Bridgewater Hall.

During lessons, Rohan translates his wide range of experiences and knowledge into digestible and fun teaching. His unique academic studies into music history provides a base that allows his students to develop not only technically, but as  well-rounded musicians enabling them to formulate their own pianistic interpretations. Rohan works with a wide range of abilities and age groups and tailors the delivery of his teaching accordingly.
