Tutor of Violin, Singing and Music Theory

Tonny is a New Zealand born Korean Actor-Musician who began the violin at a very young
age of five years old. He was originally trained classically at a rigorous music school with the
dream of becoming a concert violinist. Therefore, he took part in national competitions in Seoul,
South Korea and trained at performing arts schools. He was also a concert master in his local
orchestra where he learned how to work as a team and a collaborative leader. He successfully
achieved a high distinction for his Grade 8 ABRSM exam.

Then in high school, he discovered a passion for Musical Theatre. He was always curious to see if
he could utilise his musical skills on stage. This is when he found an exciting course at Mountview
called Actor-Musicianship. He successfully received a BA (Hons) degree at a renowned drama
school, Mountview, and is now a professional story teller who is able to incorporate his
instruments through his story telling on stage. Straight out of drama school, he was cast in an
original new work called Runesical which made its debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Most
recently, he finished performing as the Boy from the British classic, The Borrowers, which played
at Theatre By the Lake for three months during the Christmas period.

He hopes to pass down his extensive musical knowledge to his students and accommodate to
their needs with open arms.

Testimonials:

"Tonny is a passionate teacher who was eager to teach me violin and help me specifically with
technique. I played the violin before but put it away and wanted to start again. He has always
been so supportive and the structure of his lessons are very organised and fun. I would highly
recommend working with him if you want to learn in an uplifting and joyous environment." - Elliot C

"I asked Tonny to teach my two girls together who had only been playing the violin for three years
at school orchestras. He was able to teach the lessons in both Korean and English which was
perfect for my kids. He successfully put our kids through the ABRSM exams and both of them
achieved distinctions which I was super proud of! They also began to enjoy practicing and always
wanted to get a sticker for finishing their homework. He bought them a lovely pencil case because
they earned 10 stickers at the end of the month which was a great way to motivate the students. I
would highly recommend reaching out to him. He is an intelligent teacher who is super talented
himself." - Boyun S

"I wanted to start a hobby and previously played the cello for a couple of years. I found Tonny’s
lesson advertisement at a local cafe right across the road from where I lived. Then I booked an
initial consultation where he discussed with care about what I wanted from the lessons. I was
super nervous at first but he knew what he was doing which made me feel like I was in a
completely safe space. My love for the violin has improved ever since I took lessons with him and
he is definitely a very focused, ambitious and passionate teacher." - Rachel C
