Ben M
Drums and Music Theory
Ben is a drum teacher and working musician, performing around the UK with rock band, Eat Your Own Head, supporting various bands including The Pigeon Detectives, The Physics House Band and The St Pierre Snake Invasion. He has studied music pedagogy at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and has played the drums for 19 years. He has experience in teaching and performing a diversity of music genres including rock, hip hop, jazz, afrobeat, reggae, blues, country and funk.
Ben creates lessons that fit the individual student’s needs, while always promoting creativity and challenging students in each session. His own joy of music, evident in his enthusiasm, sense of humour and positivity, is present in every lesson. Ben has extensive experience working with autism and is happy to teach SEN children and adults. He teaches both Trinity and Rockschool grades, as well as his own courses.
Whether you are beginner, intermediate or advanced, Ben can help you engage creatively with the drum kit. For beginners, Ben has a selection of resources that aim to get students playing three-way drum grooves to their favourite tunes as quickly as possible. In doing so, he aims to give every beginner the motivation to keep learning and enjoy playing the drums for years to come.
For intermediate drummers, now’s the time to start shaping your own voice behind the drumkit. Ben can help you expand the tools in your toolkit, whether that be playing in a style of one of your drum heroes, learning to improvise with fluidity or focusing on essential skills for playing live.
For advanced players, Ben offers detailed knowledge in a range of musical genres as well as topics including linear drumming, original composing and technique. He can help advanced players develop next-level hand and foot technique, explore odd time signatures and utilise rudiments and creative ideas in a sophisticated manner (amongst many other subjects).
Ben aims to improve your practice routines and help develop mechanisms for you to explore the drum kit further. Ben loves talking drums, and wants to hear from you!
