Callum S

Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Banjo, Music Theory and Music Production

Callum S is a guitar and music tutor based in South London.

Callum started playing classical guitar at about the same time he learnt how to walk. He shifted to electric guitar for the purposes of playing with larger bands at about the same time he discovered Black Sabbath, which led to years of deep-diving into rock music. Since then Callum has continued to explore other instruments, including bass, banjo, ukulele and keys, as well as a diverse range of genres from different cultures, such as reggae, jazz, funk, gagaku and metal. In 2015 Callum achieved a Grade 8 in guitar, and in 2020 graduated from The Academy of Contemporary Music with First Class Honours.

Callum has been teaching professionally for the last 5 years and takes great joy in learning about each student’s tastes and ambitions to design a lesson plan that is fun, interesting and keeps students playing songs they love. Callum prioritises weaving key aspects of music theory learning into a practical setting so each student can take on board what they need at their own speed whilst never getting distracted from the joy of playing.

Testimonials: “I've had lessons with various guitar schools and individual tutors but have stayed with Callum for over 2 years as he has been the best by far. He is incredibly patient, easy going and lessons are always fun and relaxed. I'm not the best at keeping up with practice but I never feel pressured or judged, a reason that caused me to leave other teachers in the past. Recently I decided I wanted to learn a newly released song for which there were no available tabs or online lesson videos. The song has many intricate sections with different guitar techniques. Callum transcribed every part for me in full detail and exactly to the original. I know this would have taken him extensive time outside of my paid hourly lessons, for which I am extremely grateful. It is a perfect example of Callum's dedication to his teaching and effort to ensure that lessons are tailored to suit the student. Highly recommended and much appreciated!” - Karina L “Callum is a brilliant teacher for me and my kids. He's very patient and has a very calming and gentle personality and puts everyone around him at ease. He even agreed to come home to teach us to make it easy with the kids. Mix that with his amazing guitar skills which makes him a rockstar teacher! I cannot recommend him enough.” - Kaushal M “Callum has taught me bass for a while now and he's honestly been the best bass teacher I could ask for - not only is he great at explaining different techniques, he is also incredibly friendly and nice, and never treats me in any kind of patronising way. He teaches me incredibly well and I also have fun in his lessons, even when we're doing scales! I've seen myself improve tons through his teaching, but more than that he's made me love the bass so much more!” - Saoirse E “Callum is a fantastic teacher, he is so patient, fun and easy to get along with. He also puts in the effort to find songs I love that are fun to play and a good level for me - he has actually got me excited to practice!! If you are looking to take up guitar I cannot recommend Callum enough.” - Rowan E “Callum took me from someone who never touched a guitar to someone who LOVES performing on stage! He has a wonderfully reassuring personality and vast knowledge of musicianship and how a beginner thinks. It’s been amazing having someone to correct my bad habits as soon as they happen in a way that makes me feel comfortable and so excited about my next lesson with him. You would be in the best hands and you should definitely choose him for your guitar studies!” - Stefan G
