Ellen M

Piano

Ellen M is a creative and accomplished musician, composer and audio professional, whose work has been featured in video games, trailers and films.

After growing up with a deep love for music and the piano, Ellen pursued a classical music degree at the University of Birmingham, where she specialised in composition. Her final project, an electronic piece titled ‘DNA’, was awarded the 2020 COMPASS prize as the piece that received the highest mark in the undergraduate cohort for that academic year.

Ellen subsequently studied a Master’s degree in Music and Sound Design at Hertfordshire University, which led her to her current career in game audio. She has worked for Xbox, Frontier Developments and the recording studio SIDE London, and is now a freelance audio professional alongside teaching the piano.

Ellen’s goal is always to inspire confidence and musical enjoyment in her students. Her broad wide range of musical interests, from Chopin to Zelda, means that she has a wealth of practical and theoretical knowledge to pass on to her students, as well as a whole lot of passion! She has over a year’s experience teaching students of all ages, and her lessons are always tailored to match the pupil's needs. Her lessons always include at least some pieces that she selects with her students, as well as some more technically challenging work.

Testimonials: "Ellen is committed, friendly and very encouraging in her approach to teaching. She recognised my level instinctively and knows how to get the best out of me. I would recommend her highly to all seeking to play the piano. She combines the practical with the theoretical effortlessly. I learnt music from scratch very quickly." - Tariq, student. "Ellen is great with our 6 year old: she’s kind, patient and keeps him focused on learning whilst enjoying the process. Her gentle and friendly approach is fantastic." - Janey, parent.
