Patrick M
Piano and Music Theory
Patrick is a professional, classically trained pianist with over 20 years of playing experience and more than 10 years of teaching students of all ages and abilities. He teaches complete beginners through to advanced pianists and regularly prepares students for graded exams up to Grade 8, as well as performance and diploma-level qualifications.
After achieving Grade 8 Piano, Patrick went on to study Commercial Music at the University of Westminster, and later completed the ARSM Piano Performance Diploma. He is also a graduate of the Centre for Young Musicians, part of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he developed a strong foundation in classical performance and musicianship.
Alongside his classical training, Patrick studied jazz piano with Steve Lodder and has a strong understanding of jazz harmony, improvisation, and music theory. He has performed in a wide variety of settings, including ensembles, trios, quartets, big bands, and contemporary bands, giving him a broad and practical musical perspective.
As a performer, Patrick has toured with rock bands and appeared at major venues including the O2 Academy, the Royal Festival Hall, and the City of London Festival. He has also worked as a session musician and previously held positions as principal organist at Christ the King Church and the Mary Undercroft Chapel at the Palace of Westminster.
Patrick brings this real-world performance experience into every lesson. His teaching style is supportive, structured, and highly individualised, with lessons tailored to each student’s goals, interests, and learning pace. Whether a student is working towards exams, learning to play for enjoyment, or exploring different musical styles, Patrick aims to build confidence, strong technique, and a genuine love of music.
